RZA is so badass.
This shit is still bangin.
One of the best music videos ever.
This dude is super hard to understand cause the sound quality is’t that great and he mumbles, but the things he says are interesting as hell.
I’ve experienced things using psychedelics that I can’t explain with words, and he goes into it. I found out about him on Vice’s isolation tank mini doc (http://www.vice.com/hamiltons-pharmacopeia/tanks-for-the-memories-part-1) and the things he says made me realize what my subconscious has kind of been hinting towards.
All mystical disciplines, including shamanism, are just one path up the same mountain. The top of the mountain allows you to see the world around you from an unobscured perspective, and the paths are there to guide you, but you can choose your own path if you wish. Though because the path hasn’t been tread, you may encounter many unforeseen difficulties. However, the intrinsic reward for this must be much greater.
I have experimented with psychedelics a bit and consequently I have studied a lot of mystical traditions. These have led me to conclude that deep meditative states can lead you to the same places as chemical induced shamanic states. However, because the inner cosmos is infinitely vast, it’s highly unlikely that that would ever happen.
It seems that whether you use isolation tanks, meditation, or drugs, you must train and learn how to navigate your own inner universe before you can start to make real progress.
Therefore my personal opinion is that while it is great to use psychedelics to touch the infinite, to use them continually will degrade your mind unless you are extremely strong and careful. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I think they are a great starting point, and extremely valuable to human consciousness, but they can be just as harmful as crack if abused.
I feel that the path that seems the most appealing to me would be to learn to delve into the inner depths using isolation, and once it becomes second nature, one could perhaps more easily attain those states when meditating without any outside help. This would eliminate the need for any drugs or external things (including a device that eliminates external stimuli) in order to get in touch with the source of reality.
This is all just speculation on my part though, haha.
I can’t stop listening to this mixtape. Saw these dudes 3 times at SXSW. Hopefully they keep progressing. I love the vibe.
Not a huge X-games fan but I have some love for the city of Detroit since I saw my first non-local concert (Earth Crisis/Downset) there along with tons of other shows. I have also enjoyed skating there, seen World Industries and Toy Machine demos there in the 90s, and I feel like it’d be cool to have something involving skateboarding to help bring a bunch of much needed tourism money to the city to provide resources for growth and infrastructure. In addition to this it would probably change a lot of attitudes toward the city. Also my buddy Derrick is in this video which got me hyped. He’s the one who is skitching behind the dirt bike dude and falls.
